With the clutter of dozens of “buzzworthy” Super Bowl commercials and the giant price tag associated with airing them, every company looks to cut through the competition’s ads with something unique.
Sex sells and drama has its merits, but humor is what makes Super Bowl commercials truly stand out. Frito-Lay has produced some of the most humorous and memorable commercials with their Doritos spots in recent years, and viewers should expect more of the same this year.
As it has done for the past six years, Doritos’ is once again rolling out its Crash the Super Bowl campaign, allowing viewers to vote on what they want to see during the game. Here are the finalists:

When it comes to humor, there are few sponsors that deliver like Doritos, and if those clips are any indication, viewers are in for a treat.
The Crash the Super Bowl campaign is funny, but it’s also an ingenious ad-developing strategy. The commercials are submitted by fans for the contest, the five finalists are then awarded $25,000 and a trip to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. The top three finalists split a $2 million prize pool and the winner’s ad is shown during the game.
The money obviously isn’t an issue for Doritos, and using user submissions from a larger pool all but guarantees the company will find a terrific commercial to promote its products.
Ads from Volkswagen, Bud Light, Mercedes-Benz and Taco Bell have received a lot of buzz leading up to Super Sunday. Doritos will look to top them all with the winner of its campaign, and the company that has brought us many awesome commercials in years past certainly won’t disappoint.
