With time running out before the January transfer window closes, clubs around the world are looking to make one final push for a key acquisition. Manchester United is doing something similar, but it should not waste its time chasing Victor Wanyama.

According to Miguel Delaney of ESPN, the club is "set to make an £8 million bid" for the Celtic midfielder. However, Delaney also brings up two major points about why this deal will never happen.

First, signing with the club will be an issue due to Manchester United's unwillingness to negotiate with the player's agent. Delaney says:

The move for the highly-rated Dutch player is understood to be threatened, however, by United's unhappiness with his agent - and that could mean they are prepared to look elsewhere.

In addition, he points out that Celtic will not want to part with the midfielder due to his value on his current squad.

The 21-year-old star has been constantly improving for the Scottish club and is quickly becoming one of its best players. He leads the squad with 22 starts, and is second behind Gary Hooper with six goals.

He is also solid defensively as he seems to be in good position on the pitch.

So far, that has led to a lot of overall success. Celtic dominated the Scottish Premier League last season and is well on its way to another title this year. The club also reached the knockout stage of the Champions League and is set to face Juventus in the Round of 16.

Regardless of the money that Manchester United is offering, it is tough to imagine Celtic giving up on this opportunity by parting with a key player.

As a result, the Red Devils should look in other directions for ways to improve the squad. They can add midfield depth in Kevin Strootman or they can try to get defenders Kurt Zouma and Ezequiel Garay.

The options are there for a big acquisition. It is important to focus on the ones that are more likely than those that would be a waste of time.

Sitting in first place in the English Premier League allows Manchester United to relax a little bit at this time of year. However, there are certainly transfers available at the end of January. The key is for the team to start looking in the right places.
