Despite locking down an agreement on a transfer fee, it appears Jack Butland won't be moving to London.

Chelsea has been looking to acquire the services of the 19-year-old Birmingham keeper, but the Daily Mirror is reporting that Butland has turned down the Blues' offer for fear of riding the pine for Chelsea.

BBC Sport confirmed the report via Twitter:

According to Butland's agent (h/t Daily Mirror), Gary Mellor, the goalkeeper is enjoying his time playing for Birmingham but is open to listening to offers as long as it involves significant playing time.

It may be much to the dismay of Chelsea fans, but this is an intelligent move for Butland.

It was reported that the fee was worth £3.5 million, which would have aided Birmingham's cash situation.

According to ESPN, Birmingham City is facing financial troubles and is trying to sell whomever to recover its losses.

If the deal had gone through, it would have been a steal for the Blues, as Butland is regarded as one of the best keepers in England, as ESPN notes.

This isn't necessarily a severe loss for Chelsea, which already has a more than suitable goalie in Thibaut Courtois, who is in line to eventually replace current starter Petr Cech.

In the end, it's a move that works out for both sides.

Butland will happily continue to start for Birmingham and the Blues aren't spending any money when they already have a future keeper in waiting.

If Butland continues to play at a high level, his time will come when an EPL team comes knocking and looking for his services.

According to the Guardian, Butland's name has been mentioned alongside clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City and New Castle, among others.
