The Reds spent much of the game defending and pushing the home team back, but took an early lead through Luis Suarez who finished after Daniel Sturridge's shot was blocked.
Jordan Henderson doubled the lead around the hour mark after a fine solo run, but that only served to spark Arsenal into motion and within five minutes they had equalised.
Firstly Olivier Giroud headed a goal back after Jack Wilshere's free kick delivery, then Theo Walcott drove home from an angle down the right channel of the penalty area.
The Gunners had much more of the ball and the play in the final third, but it was the away team who created the far better chances for most of the game. Luis Suarez almost won it at the death when he forced Wojciech Szczesny into a fine low save, and a point apiece in the end was perhaps the right result.
90+3'—SHOT SAVED! Suarez robs the ball and sends Liverpool forward after exchanging passes with Downing, then the Uruguayan shoots hard and low—and Szczesny makes a good save low to his right.
90+3'—Will there be one final chance in the game for either team? The ball is down Liverpool's end and perhaps an away point is better for them than Arsenal, but it might feel like two points dropped after leading 2-0.
90+2'—Arsenal manage to clear once more, and we're into the final 120 seconds.
90+1'—Liverpool play the free kick short down the left and Jose Enrique wins another corner. Wisdom, Agger and Downing are forward, with Suarez to take it. Not too many committed forward.
89'—Almost the entire 90 minutes played. Agger bursts forward again, swaps passes with Suarez and takes on Mertesacker—who takes down the Dane and will be booked.
Four minute to be added on.
86'—CHANCE TO WIN IT. Podolski makes space inside the box again and finds Giroud with the goal to aim for from five yards out—and the French striker makes a complete mess of it, mis-kicking and giving Liverpool the chance to clear. Up the other end Downing breaks free and passes infield to Suarez, but his shot goes well over the bar.
84'—Giroud knocks the ball past Agger on the edge of the area and goes crashing to the ground...and the referee promptly shows a yellow card. Atrocious dive, he was a good 30 cm away from the defender's foot.
83'—Arsenal straight forward again to Walcott and then Giroud, and he forces Reina into a save with a low shot from 25 yards.
82'—Jose Enrique gets forward for the first time since coming on and wins the Reds another corner. Gerrard to deliver...and it bounces off an Arsenal defender and Mertesacker completes the clearance.
81'—Liverpool have a corner and it somehow ends up with an Arsenal shot. Walcott breaks before releasing Podolski and in turn Cazorla, but his effort arrows just a few feet wide of the far post.
79'—Approaching the last 10 minutes at the Emirates Stadium now. Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool is the score, and both teams will think they can steal the full three points late on. It's Arsenal who are still making all the running though, with the Reds relying on counter attacks through Suarez.
...and Mertesacker gets up to head the ball at the near post, but it's over the bar.
77'—Wisdom concedes a foul and the Gunners have another chance to put the ball into the box, this time from their left side. Cazorla will deliver.

75'—Jose Enrique has filled in on the left side of midfield since coming on, with Luis Suarez moving up front. He's looking isolated though, with Liverpool still sitting very deep. The Gunners' intensity has dropped after that equalising goal though.
73'—Arsenal keeping up the pressure and forcing Reina into a hurried and sliced clearance. The away side haven't had the ball near Arsenal's penalty area since they scored the second goal. Gerrard goes late into a tackle on Mertesacker and is booked for his troubles.
69'—Where is this game going next? 20 minutes remaining and everything to play for. Liverpool need to get themselves back on the ball and reassert some influence over the way things are headed; Arsenal rampant and fully in control of the ball at present.
And within two minutes Arsenal are level! Cazorla feeds the ball into the area, Giroud lays it off and Walcott smacks it hard and low, beating Reina and finding the far corner of the net. Brilliant comeback from the home side and they are really on the offensive now.

And Arsenal are right back in it! Walcott won a free kick with a run down the right and from Wilshere's delivery, Olivier Giroud got up above Daniel Agger to plant a firm downward header past Pepe Reina at the back post—2-1 now.

62'—Looking for an instant riposte, Podolski drills in another low effort which spins just past the near post.
Liverpool double their lead and it's a moment of inspiration, hard-work and persistence from Jordan Henderson which has made it possible. He takes the ball off Sturridge 30 yards from goal, takes on Andre Santos and Per Mertesacker, sees his first shot blocked by the keeper but then pokes the rebound in beyond Sagna's lunging attempt at a block. Great goal from Henderson and a deserved second for Liverpool after the chances they've created.
