NHL Mystery: What's Up with the Second Assist?

Timothy WCorrespondent IMarch 28, 2008

There's been something on my mind for the past little while, and it just seems to me that recording a point for a second assist seems kind of odd.

Yes, a player who can set up a player to make the assist to the goal is great, but should he really be credited with a point for it?

I am not a fan who wants to change the NHL, and I feel that the game is great the way it is, but for the longest time I have always questioned that second assist point.

It makes me wonder how many assists would Wayne Gretzky or Joe Thorton really have if there were only points awarded for the first assist?

I would love to hear feedback to this and hope you can all tell me what you think.

I encourage you to make me a believer that the second assist is really worth recording.

Where can I comment?
