While the 2013 Royal Rumble was full of highlights, the segments that I most enjoyed were those involving Daniel Byran.
For me, Bryan was the outstanding wrestler of 2012, as he is incredibly popular with the fans and respected for the quality of his in-ring work.
His recent spots with Kane have been nothing short of brilliant, and WWE wisely capitalised on this on Sunday night. As with any Royal Rumble, time is restricted. The Rumble match always runs for an hour, and with two world title matches also on the card, there is very little time for anything else.
But the WWE made time for Bryan, and it was the absolute correct decision. The tag team match was a very decent effort from all concerned, with Kane and Bryan emerging victorious.
Their spot after the match, where they were given their Rumble entry numbers, was an entertaining one, but it was their segment during the main event that stole the show for me.
Bryan showed his ruthless streak, sensing an opportunity and quickly eliminating his tag team partner, much to the obvious dismay of Kane. However, when Bryan was then thrown over the ropes, he landed in the arms of his tag team partner. At this point, Bryan's feet had not touched the floor, and he was officially still in the Rumble.
Which way would Kane go? Bryan looked into the eyes of the Big Red Machine and implored him to carry him back to the ring. For a few moments, they stayed exactly where they were, with Bryan suspended in limbo. He seemed to get through to his fellow Tag Team champion, as Kane slowly walked towards the ring, cradling Bryan like a new born.
Bryan's joy, though, was to be short-lived, as Kane changed his mind and dumped him on the floor, thus eliminating him.
It will be interesting to see where their relationship goes from here. Kane is in the latter stages of his career whilst Daniel Bryan's is only just beginning.
It is surely only a matter of time before he finds himself back in the world title picture. It is clear that the WWE believes in him and the qualities that he has to offer, and that was why he was given such a prominent role in last night's PPV.
With the countdown to WrestleMania starting, it will be interesting to see which path Daniel Bryan follows in 2013.
