Arizona Diamondbacks News Brief
I am hearing a rumor (Peter Gammons, I am looking at you) about Doug Davis having thyroid cancer.
I hope this isn't true, but if it is, I wish Davis a speedy recovery.
Fortunately for Davis, he could receive therapy between pitches, as the usual session lasts only an hour or so. At that rate, he should be cured by the end of his first start.
In all seriousness, I hope this rumor is not true and that Dougy Fresh is fine and dandy.
This will, more than likely, push Edgar Gonzalez into the starting rotation as the fourth guy.
This hurts the Dbacks, becauase they will lose a lefty that they can't really replace. If Randy Johnson can't make it through the year, they will have five righties.
It might be time to start shopping.
I hear David Wells is free...
UPDATE:
MLB.com and dbacks.com confirmed this story. Doug Davis promptly showed up to surrender 3 home runs in a row and leave the Dbacks trailing by 8 when he left in the 3rd. Get better Doug, but don't hurry back.
