Brooklyn Nets vs. Houston Rockets: Live Score, Results and Game Highlights
USA TODAY Sports
Deron Williams' night started off promising for Brooklyn, as he dropped 20 in the first quarter alone. That was the closest the Nets would get to a win, however, as their one-point lead evaporated just seconds into the second quarter, and it would never be relinquished by the Rockets.
James Harden and the Houston attack was too much for the Nets defense. Brooklyn kept it close throughout the second half, but Harden helped close it out with several key buckets in the closing minutes.
It marks the end of a 4-4 roadie for Brooklyn, and Houston has now won two straight, not far removed from a seven-game losing streak.
Despite keeping it close for much of the fourth quarter, the Nets just couldn't get the stops they needed to come out of Houston victorious.
Deron Williams dropped 20 in the first quarter, but rolled his ankle to start off the second and was never as effective. He took an early exit in the fourth when frustration got the best of him, and he was ejected after a subtle exchange with an official.
The Houston attack was just too much for Brooklyn tonight, and the Nets are now victim to two straight losses to Western Conference teams.
The Nets couldn't keep up with the Rockets from the very beginning, and fall to 26-18.
The benches have emptied, and it's garbage time in Houston. This loss will mark the Nets' first consecutive defeats under interim coach P.J. Carlesimo.
ROCKETS 119, NETS 106 — FINAL
Deron Williams' night is over after being ejected. What started off as a potentially historic night for Williams ends in less-than-memorable fashion.
ROCKETS 119, NETS 105 — 1:07 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
The Nets got caught playing Houston's game tonight. They launched a season-high 36 three-pointers, and although making 16, this one will be better off forgotten for Nets fans.
ROCKETS 118, NETS 105 — 1:07 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
Harden drains the jumper, and the foul, for the dagger. Unless the Nets can come back from a 15-point deficit in two minutes, this one's in the books.
ROCKETS 118, NETS 103 — 1:44 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
The Nets need threes now, but Watson just launched a bad one. Nets are down 12 with just over two-and-a-half minutes left. Brooklyn needs a miracle now.
ROCKETS 113, NETS 101 — 2:34 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
James Harden is on fire. He scores on two straight possessions, the Nets are down by 15 with only a few minutes remaining.
ROCKETS 113, NETS 98 — 3:58 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
The Nets keep creeping back, but Houston relentlessly keeps extending the lead. Teams are trading baskets now, but the Nets need stops.
ROCKETS 110, NETS 98 — 4:38 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
Parsons finds a cutting Lin, but Lopez swats it away for his fourth block tonight. The Nets are D'ing up now, but still trail by 10 with time winding down.
ROCKETS 105, NETS 95 — 5:41 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
Wallace is 4-of-10, Lopez is 4-of-11, and Johnson is 4-of-12 for Brooklyn.
Defense is an even bigger issue though, as the Rockets are getting to the rim at will.
ROCKETS 105, NETS 95 — 6:29 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
Brook Lopez brings the Nets within eight after knocking down a fader after an offensive board. Houston follows with a bucket of their own, though, to bring the lead back to 10.
Still some time left for BK.
ROCKETS 103, NETS 93 — 7:24 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
The Nets do well to strip Houston twice down low in the post, but are called for a foul. Both teams are scoring well, but Brooklyn will need to step up the D to pull off the comeback tonight.
ROCKETS 101, NETS 91 — 8:52 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
The Nets have set a season high with 15 threes tonight. They're at 48 percent from downtown, but Houston is bettering them at 50 percent after another Lin three-ball.
ROCKETS 101, NETS 91 — 9:09 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
Jeremy Lin sinks a three to extend the lead to 13. BK is doing well to trim the lead, but they'll go nowhere without stops on defense. Houston has 96 points with 10 minutes remaining.
ROCKETS 96, NETS 83 — 10:44 LEFT IN THE 4TH QUARTER
Williams has only five since the first quarter, but leads the Nets with 25. Wallace, Lopez and Johnson are all in double-figures now for the Nets, too.
Harden has 20 for Houston, and Chandler Parsons has dropped 14 and dished out 10 assists. Jeremy Lin has added 6 and 6 as well.
ROCKETS 89, NETS 80 — END 3RD
The rebound battle is 39-20 in favor of Houston as we close in on the fourth quarter. Nets down 11.
ROCKETS 89, NETS 78 — 10 SECS LEFT IN THE 3RD QUARTER
Right place at the right time for Lopez, but he'll certainly take the points.
ROCKETS 87, NETS 76 — 50 SECS LEFT IN THE 3RD QUARTER
The Nets finally look organized on offense, but the buckets aren't really falling. They're working to get rid of this deficit. They've cut it from 20 to nine.
ROCKETS 82, NETS 73 — 1:59 LEFT IN THE 3RD QUARTER
Brook Lopez finally gets something going on the offensive end. Goes up strong against a few Rockets and sinks the bucket.
Williams drills a three to cut the Rockets lead from 20 to 17. The primary issue for BK is that they're in dire need of a stop, and cannot get one. But yeah, the offense is a mess too.
#Nets have abandoned any type of offense that involves penetration/postups/getting free throws— Mike Mazzeo (@MazzESPN) January 27, 2013
ROCKETS 80, NETS 63 — 4:44 REMAINING IN THE 3RD
The lead is back to 18 after a driving Parsons layup. He has 12, and the Rockets can't be stopped on offense.
ROCKETS 76, NETS 58 — 6:09 REMAINING IN THE 3RD QUARTER
Lopez's struggles continues as he bricks a jumper off the side of the backboard. Wallace crashes to the floor again, and the Nets are on the ropes. They're sleep-walking through the third.
ROCKETS 74, NETS 58 — 7:28 REMAINING IN THE 3RD QUARTER
Surprise, surprise! Gerald Wallace ends up on the hardwood. He's called for his first foul, and Parsons gets a layup to go. All rolls going Houston's way to this point.
ROCKETS 70, NETS 56 — 8:51 REMAINING IN THE 3RD QUARTER
Gerald Wallace has the Nets on the board first in the third quarter with a three. They'll need a few stops on the other end to keep it close.
ROCKETS 68, NETS 54 — 10:01 REMAINING IN THE 3RD QUARTER
