The 2013 Royal Rumble could be WWE's biggest edition of the event in the last decade.
Between the in-ring return of The Rock and the speculation as to who will win the Rumble match, there's plenty of discussion going on in the buildup to the pay-per-view.
This is where the proverbial road to WrestleMania begins. The main-event picture will start to come into focus a little more after Sunday night.
At least one match will be pretty much decided after the result of the 30-man battle royal, with the winner of the Rumble getting a title shot at WrestleMania.
Here's how the individual title matches could shake out in addition to the Rumble match.
Alberto Del Rio vs. Big Show for World Heavyweight Title
It was a shock when Alberto Del Rio won the World Heavyweight Title two weeks ago on SmackDown. In addition, the milestone event was a well-deserved accomplishment for a wrestler who has consistently delivered for over a year now.
Big Show was a fantastic Heavyweight Champion, putting on good matches with Sheamus and adding some different dynamics to his character.
Predicting a winner is difficult between the two because whoever wins will likely drop the belt to Sheamus or Randy Orton in the buildup to WrestleMania.
It doesn't make much sense to have Del Rio hold the title for two weeks and then drop it right back to Show, so he gets the edge.
Del Rio will lock on the Cross Armbreaker, thus weakening Show's arm so he can't hit the WMD to its full extent. Then he'll find a way to keep Show down for the 10 count.
Prediction: Alberto Del Rio
CM Punk vs. The Rock for WWE Title
Few title matches have been as divisive as the one between The Rock and CM Punk at the Royal Rumble. Arguments could be made that having either guy win the title is the best thing for business.
With The Shield taken out of the equation, it's interesting to think if there's going to be interference at the end, costing either Rock or Punk the match. Having a clean win hurts the loser and the buildup for Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania XXIX.
Punk has held the title for over 400 days, going back to last year's Survivor Series, and is the second-biggest star in the company right now behind John Cena. He can hold his own in the ring with The Rock.
However, The Rock winning the title opens up the possibility for a WrestleMania rematch with Cena or a Triple Threat match involving Cena, Rock and Punk.
Prediction: The Rock
Royal Rumble Match
It's hard to look beyond the trio of Sheamus, Orton and Cena when deciding who could win the Rumble.
Of the three, Cena is the heavy favorite. The Rock and John Cena had one of the biggest WrestleMania main events last year, so it's understandable the company would want to try and recreate that.
That match was billed as "Once in a Lifetime," thus meaning the second time around would need the "Twice in a Lifetime" tag.
The problem with having Cena win would be that it's too predictable. Last year, Chris Jericho was the consensus pick, yet WWE had Sheamus eliminate him to win the Rumble match and earn a World Title shot against Daniel Bryan.
Cena's star is much bigger, so the company is much more likely to go with the predictable this year.
Prediction: John Cena
