Andy Murray has made a strong case to be mentioned in the same breath as the other elite tennis players on the ATP Tour in Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. While his talent is obvious, perhaps a contributing factor has been the unwavering support of his biggest fan.
His girlfriend, Kim Sears.
Sears can regularly be seen at tournaments, cheering the oft-moody but undeniably skilled Murray. Emma Clark of the Daily Mail wrote the following about Sears at last year's Wimbledon:
The dedication she has shown to her tennis ace boyfriend, which includes postponing her own dreams of becoming an actress, could pay off today if Murray clinches the title.
The 24-year-old has followed Murray across the globe supporting him in his championship matches in an admirable show of affection.
Kim, the daughter of tennis coach Nigel Sears, met Murray at the 2005 US Open when she was just 17 and studying for her A levels in drama, music and art.
As you might have expected, she is in Australia cheering Murray on. He'll need all the support he can get with a difficult match against Roger Federer in the semifinals coming up.
It is admirable that Sears is such a loyal supporter of her boyfriend's career. You have to imagine it is nice for Murray to have her with him on the road, keeping him grounded and ensuring he has a little bit of home with him on what surely is a grueling travel schedule.
On the other hand, the lifestyle Sears has chosen is, well, pretty darn cool. She travels around the world with her boyfriend, watches a ton of tennis and still has a career of her own.
I think they call that "living the dream."
Sears may be best known for appearing on camera during Murray's matches, but she also has her own career as a painter and aspirations to be an actress. She certainly is spending her 20s in style, that's for sure.
Who wouldn't want to go jet-setting around the world with their boyfriend? Who wouldn't want their girlfriend supporting them at most tournaments they play?
The pair have a nice setup indeed. Good on Sears for supporting her boyfriend's career while having one of her own.
