WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from January 23
WWE Main Event, which continues to be one of the most underrated wrestling shows, showcased more terrific entertainment on Wednesday night.
The first match consisted of Ryback taking on United States champion Antonio Cesaro.
Not only was it a battle between two of the strongest wrestlers in the business, but the fact that the two men are both en route to star status and couldn't afford a loss added to the intrigue.
The second match pitted Team Rhodes Scholars against The Usos, who came away from last week's event with a terrific win.
Let's take a look at what happened.
Ryback Defeats Antonio Cesaro via Count Out
Ryback controlled most of the match, although both men took turns landing some big moves.
How would you grade this match?
At one point, Ryback knocked Cesaro out of the ring with a clothesline—surprise—and it looked as though The Swiss Superstar was just going to leave it at that and let the referee count to 10.
But The Miz, who was announcing at the time, wasn't going to let that happen. He tossed Cesaro back into the ring, which allowed Ryback to land a massive Meathook Clothesline.
Before the big man could land a Shell Shocked, however, Cesaro again rolled out of the ring and this time headed to the locker room to finish the match.
And that was it.
Really, this was all that could have happened with this one. Cesaro is clearly more talented in the ring than Ryback, but neither man can afford to be pinned right now.
It wasn't great booking, but the duo was fun to watch inside the ring.
Team Rhodes Scholars Defeats The Usos
Team Rhodes Scholars came out slow, mostly because The Usos made fun of Cody Rhodes' mustache and he nearly had a meltdown, but they obviously regained controlled.
Who do you think will win at Royal Rumble?
The up-and-coming tag team certainly wasn't going to suffer a loss with a title shot against Team Hell No at Royal Rumble coming up.
Still, though, despite the predictable finish, both teams put on tremendous, high-tempo, well-executed shows.
In the end, Damien Sandow got the pin when Cody forced The Usos into a mishap off the top rope.
Even with the loss, The Usos put up yet another very good showing, and the crowd was into the match throughout.
Cesaro has made a habit of appearing on Main Event, and as such, he is giving himself a new nickname:
Of course, Ryback wasn't exactly scared of Mr. Main Event, and before the match, the big man provided us with this, um, joke (via WWE Universe):

What a funny guy.
Wrestle Enigma noted how obvious the second match was going to be:
Rhodes Scholars vs Le Usos is up next. Gee I wonder who's gonna win that one -_- #MainEvent— WrestleEnigma.com (@WrestleEnigma) January 24, 2013
He wasn't wrong, obviously, but that didn't take anything away from the excitement. This wrestling fan proved just that:

Two fairly predictable finishes, but two entertaining matches.
