Full time from Africa Cup of Nations 2013, Group B
Ghana 1 (Wakaso, pen)
MOTM: Isaac Vorsah
Group B standings at full time:
1. Ghana, P2, Pts 4
2. Mali, P2, Pts 3
3. DR Congo, P1, Pts 1
4. Niger, P1, Pts 0
Group B takes a twist then as Ghana leapfrog Mali and climb to the top on four points.
Tension no doubt played a part, but Mali were rather poor today it has to be said. Ghana won the game courtesy of their first half penalty, won by Badu and scored by Wakaso.
There were a total of 47 fouls in the match (per EuroSport) which contributed greatly to the fragmented approach play and lack of clear goalscoring chances.
Niger and DR Congo will contest the second game of the group later this evening, with both teams hoping to register their first victory.
Full time in the Africa Cup of Nations 2013
Ghana 1 Mali 0
90+4'—Ghana playing keep-ball as they wind down the clock. Mali have long since given up hope of scoring an unlikely equaliser, by the looks of things. Diawara crosses from the right but it's forcefully headed clear by Boye.
90+2'—Ndiaye goes clattering through Badu who breaks away down the right and concedes the free kick. Considering how happy the ref has been to dish out the yellow card, he's been strangely reluctant to issue two reds when he should have—that should have been a second booking for Ndiaye.
90+1'—Atsu bursts into the area as Ghana look to finish off this game, but his cross hits the defender and rebounds out of play off his own legs for a goal kick.
90'—Free kick on the left for Mali which Keita will swing over. It's headed out by Paintsil at the near post.
Five minutes to be added on
88'—Ghana have the ball in Mali's half of the pitch as we move into the closing stages of the game. Can Mali even fashion a real shooting chance to have a hope of salvaging a point? They've been very blunt in attack today.
86'—Corner for Mali as time winds down. Vorsah heads the cross behind but Ghana coming under increasing pressure. From the set piece, Dauda comes flying out of his six yard box to punch clear and misses by about four feet—EuroSport co-commentator Mark Bright laughs his head off, somewhat unprofessionally.
84'—ALMOST 2-0! With his first touch of the ball Asante smacks the ball hard and low towards goal and beats the keeper—but it passes just wide of the post. Decent hit on the bounce from 20 yards, but a little off target.
83'—Atsu bursts down the left flank for the first time since coming on, but his cross is blocked by Diawara and Mali can clear.
Ghana sub: Salomon Asante on for Adomah.
That's all six subs made now.

80'—Into the last 10 minutes. Mali getting much more direct in their approach, but Dauda still hasn't been asked to save anything.
77'—Fierce shot from Badu direct from a 25-yard free kick, but Samassa gets down well to push the ball wide for a corner. Samassa (the goalkeeper version) again does well to avert the danger by catching in mid-air.
Lovely. Been waiting for this to happen.
Mali sub: Mamadou Samassa on, Traore off.
That means Mali have two players on with the same name, one in goal, one up front.
Ghana sub: Asamoah off, Derek Boateng on.
73'—The yellow card's back out! This time it goes to Traore for a late clattering of Rabiu. From a corner a moment later, Vorsah gets up highest but aims his header well over the crossbar.
71'—Under 20 minutes remaining now for Mali to find an equaliser. Ghana have looked pretty steady at the back so far though, with Mali not really fashioning any clear-cut chances in the entire game.
67'—There's a more populated crowd in this half, with some cooler temperatures and the promise of the evening match to come. John Paintsil has just been booked for time wasting, while Coulibaly was booked for dissent apparently.
Mali sub: Momo Sissoko off, Samba Sow.
Ghana sub: Christian Atsu on for Wakaso.
64'—Nice move from Ghana through midfield but Rabiu's pass isn't accurate enough to Gyan in the area. Moments later the Ghana bench want a penalty for handball against Coulibaly, but there's no chance they'll get it. The Mali defender was on the floor and facing the other way when the ball struck him.
62'—Maiga goes down under a challenge from Rabiu, and he's booked as a result. A late lunge when the ball had gone already; not much he can complain about there.
61'—A brief sight of goal for Mali, but Sissoko's cross isn't controlled by Diabate and the ball bounces out of play. Should have done better there, the No. 9. He would have had a clear strike at goal had he controlled it.
59'—Dauda does well to claim another high corner, very confidently under pressure.
57'—Ghana transition the play very quickly from their defensive third to the attacking one, but once they arrive into a position around the outside of the Mali penalty area they are struggling to create any meaningful combinations.
HT: GHA 1 MAL 0. Dauda shd hv been sent off after 5 mins, but Mali hv shown little since then. Badu hadhit post before winning pen.— Jonathan Wilson (@jonawils) January 24, 2013
54'—Gyan's turn to have a shot now, but he curls the ball wide with his right foot.
