WWE Royal Rumble 2013: John Cena Shouldn't Win 30-Man Battle Royal
Having John Cena win the 2013 Royal Rumble might be the best thing for the WWE right now.
He's currently regarded as the favorite for the Rumble match. There are very few scenarios right now where he doesn't walk away the winner.
The feud between CM Punk and The Rock is taking up so much attention, the company is bound to get Cena involved somehow at WrestleMania XXIX. The easiest way to do this would be to have him win the Rumble and, as a result, a title shot at the biggest show of the year.
The biggest problem is that the result is all to predictable for the fans. It will take away from the excitement to see him win. Basically, the entire blueprint for the next few months will be already set in stone.
Part of the Rumble's fun is watching a different guy come out the winner.
That was the case at the 2012 Royal Rumble. Almost everyone expected Chris Jericho to win and face CM Punk at WrestleMania XXVIII. He made it to the final two against Sheamus, and most fans were shocked when Sheamus actually won.
Jericho ended up getting his match at CM Punk, but it wasn't in the way everyone expected.
WWE should do a similar thing this year. Here's how it could happen.
Since the Shield can't interfere on Punk's behalf, Cena could interfere and screw The Rock over, thus allowing Punk to retain. Some might see this coming, but it would be a surprise to many in attendance.
It wouldn't have to be the start of a full-fledged heel turn or anything, since Cena played more of a heel foil to The Rock in last year's feud.
He could just argue that it was revenge for the past two WrestleManias, when The Rock cost Cena the title and then beat him clean a year later.
As a result of the title match, The Rock could interfere in the Rumble match and cost Cena the title shot at WrestleMania XXIX.
This would amp up the rivalry a little and give fans a bit more incentive to get behind the renewed rivalry.
Punk could very easily be inserted into the feud by dropping the title at Elimination Chamber then demanding a rematch at WrestleMania.
Of course, WWE could do the simple, predictable thing and just have Cena win the Rumble.
