So, who's it going to be? Who will join the fold and participate in the WWE's 30-man Royal Rumble brawl at the 2013 edition of the pay-per-view?
The road to Wrestlemania begins at the US Airways Center in Phoenix on Jan. 27 and ends on April 7 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
After Sunday night we'll know at least one, if not both, of the headliners for the industry's biggest night.
It's the 26th time the promotion has sent a gaggle of its finest talent from the past, present and future of the organization to do battle.
There are some interesting aspects of this match that set it apart from any other in the sport. First, the match has a unique format. It begins with just two men in the ring and another is added to the fold every 90 seconds until all 30 enter.
If you get tossed outside the ring, you’re out.
It’s a match of strategy and trust but also comes down to endurance. Especially for someone like Dolph Ziggler, who has been put in unfortunate spot of choosing between being the first or second wrestler into the ring (h/t WWE.com).
Like that even matters, though.
Let’s get into it, then, and find out who exactly we know and who we think will be among the 30 superstars doing battle in this epic match.
Who Is Competing?
According to WWE.com, some official entrants have already been named:
- John Cena
- Randy Orton
- Dolph Ziggler
- 3MB (Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal, Drew Mcintryre)
- Antonio Cesaro (U.S. Champion)
- Wade Barrett (I.C. Champion)
- The Miz
Several other participants were added to the fold, according to WrestlingInc.com's Marc Middleton:
- Darren Young
- Titus O'Neil
- Daniel Bryan
- Kofi Kingston
- Brodus Clay
- The Great Khali
- Jimmy Uso
- Jey Uso
- Michael McGillicutty
- Cody Rhodes
- Damien Sandow
For those of you counting at home, that's a total of 23.
Jan. 21's edition of Raw featured a huge group of superstars in its final segment. All of them are believed to be potentially featured in the match.
In addition to the names already listed by previous sources, here are a couple of names that could add to the total (h/t Richard Gray of Wrestlingworld.com):
- Yoshi Tatsu
- Alex Riley
- Justin Gabriel
- Zack Ryder
- Curt Hawkins
There's a good chance these guys were just filler for Monday night's Raw airing. But if they are indeed the remaining contests, we are solid at 30 participants.
In the end, we might end up getting a couple of returning faces. No matter what happens, there's sure to be a curveball or two with this match.
There always is.
