The Red Wings played their first game at Joe Louis Arena in nine months, welcomed by fans who didn't seem to hold a grudge. If there was ill will from the lockout, it didn't fester. The crowd cheered Tomas Holmstrom as he dropped a ceremonial first puck shortly after announcing his retirement, then quieted as the Wings fell behind and time ran out on a comeback. The Wings lost, 2-1 to the Dallas Stars.
