Surrounded by teammates who treasured his professionalism and delighted in his personality, Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom bid farewell to hockey today. His decision to retire has been known for week but didn't become official until this afternoon at Joe Louis Arena, when Holmstrom made the announcement shortly before the Wings were to face off against the Dallas Stars. "After millions of memories, I'm here today to announce my retirement from Detroit Red Wings," Holmstrom said. "It wasn't easy decision to make, but it was the right one.
