Liverpool still have just under 10 days to make a few more signings in the January transfer window.

The addition of Daniel Sturridge has already paid huge dividends as he is the first Red to score in his first three appearances since 1974.

However, there is still much need for improvement in the overall quality and depth of the squad, and several smart signings could still prove to be of much worth.

Here are five players, some linked and some speculated, who could be worthy signings in the final week of the 2013 January window.

Tom Ince

Liverpool could still be in the running for England under-21 international Tom Ince.

However, the Mirror reports that his club, Blackpool, or the English Championship have reportedly stopped taking the Merseyside club's calls in regards to the player.

Ince is a product of the Liverpool academy at Melwood, but it appears it will take a bit more convincing for the club to get their youngster back.

Yann M'Vila

There are no official links between Liverpool and French international star Yann M'Vila, but Bleacher Report Liverpool contributor Tony Lucadamo believes that the Reds should indeed chase M'Vila before the end of the transfer window.

Lucadamo likens M'Vila to former Red Javier Mascherano and believes he would be a solid low-cost signing who would prove useful for years to come.

Markel Susaeta

Markel Susaeta was linked with Chelsea and Manchester United before the 2012 summer transfer window, but has yet to be linked with Liverpool.

However, the 25-year-old Athletic Bilbao wide player could provide additional coverage for the right side of Liverpool's attack behind Stewart Downing. It would also allow Suso more time to develop and another Spanish influence to his game.

Susaeta has two goals and four assists this season in La Liga for Bilbao and could possibly be a signing under £10 million.

Dries Mertens

PSV Eindhoven star Dries Mertens was linked with a move to Liverpool in January back in October of 2012 by both Metro and the Mirror.

However, a few days after those rumors were leaked, ESPN conducted an interview that saw the player cool any transfer talk surrounding him for a January move.

Mertens has been sensational in the Dutch Eredivisie, and his work rate could be similar to that of what Dirk Kuyt's once was at Anfield and his goal-scoring ability could help lighten the load even further on Luis Suarez.

The 25-year-old Belgian international has eight goals and two assists this season for PSV in all competitions, and he will be hoping to match his impressive tally of 25 goals and four assists last season for the club.

Miguel Alfonso Herrero 'Michel'

A potential sleeper signing for the Reds could be 24-year-old midfielder Miguel Alfonso Herrero of Spanish La Liga side Levante.

The young playmaker has collected six assists and added two goals this season for the club, and he would be a worthy understudy for Steven Gerrard.

With the amount of quality signings on the cheap, Michu of Swansea City being a prime example, making a splash for a young up-and-coming midfielder could be a smart move both for the team and for the financial strategy of the owners.
