The San Francisco 49ers are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995 on the strength of an innovative offense and a steady defense that made plays when they needed to be made.
After falling behind 17-0 to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship Game, the 49ers woke up and pretty much took care of business, winning 28-24 in Atlanta. After watching Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez torch them in the first half, San Francisco made some adjustments and pretty much shut down both in the second half, holding the Falcons scoreless over the course of the final 30 minutes of the game.
