BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Thomas Vanek scored twice and added three assists in leading the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-2 season-opening win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday afternoon.

Defenseman Tyler Myers scored the go-ahead goal with 5:03 left in the game after the Sabres overcame a 2-1 second-period deficit.
