DETROIT – The long wait is finally over for Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves, who has been cleared to play as the team gets set for the season opener Saturday in St. Louis.

Eaves hasn't played since being hit in the side of the head while going down on one knee to block a shot Nov. 26, 2011 against Nashville.
