Now back in New Jersey, Ilya Kovalchuk says there never was a question about him returning to the Devils after the lockout because he was obligated to do so because of his contract.
Although some of his quotes from interviews he gave in Russia indicated he wanted to stay, but couldn’t because of his contract, Kovalchuk said today wanting to stay in the KHL was never something he thought about.
