The Michigan Wolverines are already putting together a strong recruiting class, but the pending decision of stud RB Derrick Green will give them an amazing class.

Michigan appears to have a great shot at landing the Richmond, Va. product.

Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press brings us this quote from Green earlier this month on his affinity for Big Blue:

Yeah, they are still the leader [by a small margin]. Why? Because that school has not had any coaching changes, it is a top academic program, definitely a high chance to come out as a true freshman and playing, and I have a good relationship with the coaching staff.

This is great news for the Wolverines. The 6'0", 220-pound back is a stud.

Rivals has him ranked as the nation's top running back and their 14th ranked overall recruit. In 247Sports Composite Rankings, Green is the third-best running back and the 26th-best overall recruit.

He is also about to make a decision. Green tweeted out when he will make his anticipated announcement.

I have decided to make my college announcement on january 26 at 4:00pm #truly blessed!! 🙏

Green is right about having a chance to get time as a true freshman with Michigan. First and foremost is his talent. Not only is the guy a load to bring down, but he is also explosive. 247Sports lists his 40 time at 4.58, and he doesn't offer tackles a lot to aim for with his low running style.

Also, Michigan can use help in the backfield. Gone will be leading rusher Denard Robinson. They will still have Fitzgerald Toussaint, who was second on the team with 514 rushing yards, but he doesn't have the talent to keep Green on the bench. Also, he broke his leg in November and will be limited this offseason.

The other thing that could lead Green to Michigan, and then this running game to great heights, is the fact that, according to isportsweb.com, the Wolverines already have five four 4-star commits and one 5-star commit along the offensive line.

All the Wolverines need now is a talented back to grow with this talented group of linemen, and Michigan will have the foundation to a dominant rushing attack.
