Posey Declines Invitation to Play in WBC, Affeldt Will Pitch for Team USA

Reports have surfaced that Ryan Vogelsong will join the United States’ team in the World Baseball Classic in March, but The Chronicle has learned that his batterymate will not.

Buster Posey, who said last season he might be interested, will skip the WBC and spend all of spring training with the Giants, a source said. The Giants are no doubt happy with that decision given Posey’s importance to the defending World Series champions.
