The replay, lasting longer than most people are comfortable waiting, allowed for one of the most underrated funny moments of the season.
Dirk Nowitzki was doing his best to nonchalantly slip past a security guard to get a look, and maybe a word in with the referees as they were reviewing the call.
Little did Dirk know, he was dealing with Gary Payton disguised as a security guard.
Dirk goes left, the security guard tails him. Dirk goes right, the security guard doubles back the other way. Dirk tries a bit of a juke, but the security guard changes direction on a dime. He wasn't giving up any ground between him and that video screen.
Mark Cuban has gone on the record recently as saying that he's looking to make some moves—maybe signing this dude would be a nice addition. He's probably lost a step as he's accumulated the salt and pepper on top of his head, but he's a relentless defender and he's determined to get the job done.
That's the kind of guy I would want on my squad.
Even better, the security guard spends the majority of the time ignoring Dirk, just doing his job. He's not the kind of guy who's going to let a little trash talk get to him.
This is the reason why I'm okay with instant replay at the end of games. As long as there's something like this going on to give me a giggle, the referees can take as long as they like.
