With the Royal Rumble just a few weeks away, many fans are speculating about which former stars may return.
For several weeks now, Montel Vontavious Porter has been rumored to be returning to the WWE. As you probably know, the Royal Rumble has historically been used as a platform to bring back stars from the past. In some cases, it's a one-off for the returning stars.
However, there have been times that it marks a wrestler's comeback, and they continue on with the company for some time after the event. It would seem like having Porter return at the Rumble, would be an ideal opportunity for both parties.
On Sunday, MVP took to Twitter to respond to a fan about a return at the pay-per-view:
Not at all. @jerichoratedr: MVP I been hearin rumors you will be returning at the royal rumble someone said it was official is that true?— MVP (@The305MVP) January 13, 2013
Since his 2010 WWE departure, MVP jetted off to Japan and joined New Japan Pro Wrestling. Shortly after his debut, he became the IWGP Intercontinental champion. Then, in 2011, he released his first rap song entitled "Holla to the World," which included a cameo from fellow WWE cast-off Carlito.
Overall, it doesn't appear that MVP has a reason to head back to the WWE, nor does it seem that he wants to. Ultimately, I can't blame him, especially considering that when he left he was barely being used, and his on-air character was headed in a different direction.
That's not to mention the company is currently in transition and putting the focus back on younger stars. This leaves little room for someone who is just about to turn 40.
In the end, this could be his way of keeping his Royal Rumble appearance a surprise. However, this could just be his way of letting fans know that he is content with his current situation, and it's not time for him to come back.
