NFC Championship Game Pigskin Preview: San Francisco 49ers at Atlanta Falcons

Josh ZerkleChief Writer IIIJanuary 14, 2013

The Atlanta Falcons fought through troublesome opponents and media scrutiny for most of the 2012 season. Now, as we approach championship weekend, Mike Smith's team is the highest remaining seed of the NFL's postseason.

Atlanta just won its first playoff game under the Mike Smith regime in dramatic fashion against a scrappy Seattle Seahawks team.

Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan managed to move his team down the field at the last minute—quite literally—to hang on for the divisional-round victory at home. Can Ryan and the Falcons win again and pack their bags for New Orleans?

San Francisco already knocked off Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, and Colin Kaepernick has given opposing defenses fits in his time as starter.

Align Kaep's gifts with the talent of Frank Gore in the backfield and arguably the best front seven in football, and one is left a formidable foe primed to knock off the NFC's No. 1 seed.
