With Jason Taylor released, it seems the team will go with a combination of two players with a combined age of 70 to fill the spot, as fellow returnee Renaldo Wynn will also help out.
I like both players; Daniels may be 36, but he is still stupidly strong and looks to be making an excellent comeback from injury, as can be witnessed on this youtube video. Wynn is versatile and a solid leader.
My problem with the team allowing them both back is that, while they are solid players, neither is going to get 10-12 sacks. They are both better run defenders than pass rushers. With their return though, I suspect the team will once again ignore the defensive line in the draft and focus instead on linebacker and offensive line.
Now I agree those two other positions need help, but I'd like to think that the message about drafting for the lines consistently is getting through. I fear however, it's still falling on deaf ears.
Defensive line is an area I would like to see a couple of picks spent on every year. You don't just have four starters, especially in a 4-3 scheme. You need to have seven or more players ready to go and help in the rotation. It's the one area of a team where depth is as vital as the players "starting."
I'm sure Wynn and Daniels will both give great effort, but I suspect the Redskins effort on draft day will not go towards the defensive line now.
