This is who I think will be selected in the NFL Draft, picks 21-32. On each slide, I have the player who is selected in that spot, why, and what I think that teams record will be in 2009. Here is the draft order from picks 21-32.
21.) Philadelphia Eagles
22.) Minnesota Vikings
23.) New England Patriots
24.) Atlanta Falcons
25.) Miami Dolphins
26.) Baltimore Ravens
27.) Indianapolis Colts
28.) Philadelphia Eagles
29.) New York Giants
30.) Tennessee Titans
31.) Arizona Cardinals
32.) Pittsburgh Steelers
21st Overall Pick- The Philadelphia Eagles select RB Knowshon Moreno, Georgia
The Eagles generally like to restock their lines early in the draft, but with Correll Buckhalter signing with Denver, the Eagles need someone to share the load with Brian Westbrook, who will be 30-years old when the season begins.
This will give time for Moreno to develop and be put in the starting spot after Westbrook retires.
2009 Record: 10-6
22nd Overall Pick- The Minnesota Vikings select DT Peria Jerry, Mississippi
The Vikings need to begin planning for life without big Pat Williams, who is 36 years old.
Plus, the team could be without both starting defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams to begin the 2009 season pending the outcome of the Starcaps situation.
The Vikings cannot dominate teams if they do not have a quarterback. Their record suffers because of it.
2009 Record: 9-7
23rd Overall Pick- The New England Patriots select LB James Laurinaitis
Patriots fans can go wild. Tedy Bruschi will be 36 in June, so who knows if he'll even be back this year.
Another young linebacker who can play either on the inside or outside, along with last year's top pick Jerod Mayo, would give the Patriots some talented and versatile youth to rebuild around.
This tandem between Laurinaitis and Mayo will wreak havoc on opposing offenses for years to come.
If Tom Brady acts like his normal self in the season, the Patriots are once again a team to deal with.
2009 Record: 12-4
24th Overall Pick- The Atlanta Falcons select DT Evander Hood
Finding a replacement for Grady Jackson at defensive tackle is a priority, and Hood is a viable option at this point. He has good size, strength, athletic ability, and may have worked his way into the first round with a great showing at the Combine and workouts.
2009 Record: 10-6
25th Overall Pick- The Miami Dolphins select OLB/DE Larry English, Northern Illinois
With Joey Porter playing well this year, outside linebacker isn't a huge need. But he will be 32 in 2009, and Bill Parcells loves impact linebackers.
So I wouldn't be surprised if he looks for one to build his defense around. The Dolphins are a good team, but with Tom Brady healthy, and the Jets defense somewhat good, the Dolphins cannot win their division.
2009 Record: 9-7
26th Overall Pick- The Baltimore Ravens select C Alex Mack, California
With Jason Brown leaving via free agency, there's a big hole in the middle of the Ravens offensive line. That's not good when you're trying to develop a young quarterback.
With Bart Scott lost to the Jets, the Ravens defense won't be as dominating as it was in 2008, and their record will show it. It is still good enough to get into the playoffs though.
2009 Record: 10-6
27th Overall Pick- The Indianapolis Colts select DT Fili Moala, USC
The Colts lack talent and depth at the defensive tackle position, and it wouldn't be surprising to see them use a couple picks on the position.
Moala's stock seems to be on the rise, and he's the type of quick penetrating tackle the Colts like. If Peyton Manning plays like he did at the end of the season in 2008, the Colts will challenge the Steelers and Patriots for home-field advantage and a bye in the playoffs.
2009 Record: 11-5
28th Overall Pick- The Philadelphia Eagles select LT William Beatty, Connecticut
As mentioned before, the Eagles love to restock their lines early in the draft because they realize that's where most games are won or lost. Offensive tackle is a position they could stand to get younger at.
2009 Record- 10-6
29th Overall Pick- The New York Giants select LT Eben Britton, Arizona
The Giants don't have many holes to fill, but an upgrade at left tackle would allow them to move David Diehl to the right side where he would be a better fit, and use Kareem McKenzie in a reserve swing offensive tackle role.
With Osi Umenyiora healthy, the Giants will dominate. But since Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo left for the Rams, their defense needs to learn a new system. Not a big deal though.
The Giants once again sew up home-field advantage in the playoffs, and they are the best team in the NFL.
2009 Record: 13-3
30th Overall Pick- The Tennessee Titans select WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
It looks like the Titans hit the jackpot with rookie running back Chris Johnson last year, but they could still use an impact player at wideout. Heyward-Bey displayed blazing speed at the NFL Scouting Combine and would add a new dimension to Tennessee's offense.
2009 Record: 11-5
31st Overall Pick- The Arizona Cardinals select DE Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech
The Cardinals defense needs a dominant 3-4 rush outside linebacker to pair opposite Travis LaBoy. Johnson is overrated a bit because of his athletic ability, but would be a nice addition at the rush linebacker position.
The Cardinals kept QB Kurt Warner. They have manage to also keep Anquan Boldin for now, and the Cardinals are the second best team in the NFC.
2009 Record: 12-4
32nd Overall Pick- The Pittsburgh Steelers select OG Duke Robinson, Oklahoma
Help on the offensive line is by far the team's biggest priority, and there are a number of directions they could go here.
Robinson is a massive, but athletic, road grader who would immediately improve the Steelers' interior line. With no big holes now, the Steelers find a way to get home-field advantage.
2009 Record: 12-4
