On a freezing afternoon in the Potteries, Chelsea’s manager Rafael Benítez paced his technical area wearing just a suit jacket. Maybe he knows he won’t be around long enough to have a club coat fitted. But then he would have been kept warm by the internal glow of satisfaction that came from leading his team to a 4-0 win over a Stoke side who – until this comprehensive defeat – were the country’s only club still boasting an unblemished home record this season.
