A Brent Musburger endorsement is one of the strongest in sports media.
Katherine Webb, reigning Miss Alabama and current girlfriend of Crimson Tide QB AJ McCarron, has reached instant fame after Musburger's glowing commentary about her looks on Monday night's ESPN broadcast of the BCS National Championship Game.
Now, it appears she'll be in thousands of household in the very near future.
Multiple reports, including this one from AL.com, have linked the sudden star with an appearance in Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue. Webb tweeted the news on Thursday, but it was then taken down—not before some of her 250K followers helped spread the news via retweet.
Here's an excerpt from the article:
Former Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb sent out a tweet Thursday, indicating that she would be working with Sports Illustrated. The girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron tweeted: "It's official...shooting with Sports Illustrated!"
Since removed, the news hasn't been confirmed by the publication, but the brass at Sports Illustrated must not have wanted to have her tweet that information publicly—hence the removal later on in the day.
The news solidifies her status as a budding celebrity, and although there hasn't been confirmation yet about if the tweet is true or what issue she would shoot for, there's little doubt that the swimsuit edition makes the most sense given the current circumstances.
As ESPN's Darren Rovell tweeted on Thursday, Webb even has her own trading cards to go along with her new found fame:

Webb was already famous in modeling and pageant circles after being crowned Miss Alabama in 2012 and finishing in the Top 10 of the Miss USA pageant. However, ESPN made sure the rest of the sporting world was on board with her beauty, showing her after successful McCarron passes and allowing Musburger to make uncomfortable statements about her attractiveness.
Musburger was criticized for his remarks, and the network issued an apology on Tuesday morning following its review of the telecast. However, that won't stop fans from Google searching for Webb, the Auburn graduate who has crossed over to the dark side to date McCarron.
It also won't stop current players from tweeting about her, as shown by this odd exchange between the Arizona Cardinals' Darnell Dockett and McCarron.
Apparently, McCarron is the only thing that can stop Webb's career progress.
According to a TMZ report, McCarron has been uncomfortable with her recent success.
Here's an excerpt from the piece:
But sources close to Webb tell us...McCarron made it clear to her— he's not happy that the media is ignoring his accomplishments on the field. We're told Webb is taking her relationship seriously and thinks the publicity could torpedo things with AJ.
If that includes Sports Illustrated, you can bet McCarron's success won't keep him from the wrath of millions of men that want to see his girlfriend in scad clothing.
And so, the age-old adage persists: To do the swimsuit issue, or not do the swimsuit issue—that is the question.
My guess is there's more than a few folks who are wishing for the former.
