We’re only a week or so into the January transfer window, but the Premier League has already seen some big deals with big implications.
Chelsea’s play for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba has been the highest-profile move so far. Ba, who cost the Blues a reported £7 million, brings much-needed attacking reinforcement to Rafa Benitez’s squad.
Newcastle have used some of the money to buy Lille defender Mathieu Debuchy, who arrives in the northeast with international pedigree. Debuchy cost £5 million, which looks like good value for a proven 27-year-old.
Liverpool have taken advantage of Chelsea’s addition of Ba by signing their England international, Daniel Sturridge, who cost around £12 million and has slotted straight into Brendan Rodgers’ team.
Finally, we touch on Tottenham’s deal for Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby, who won’t actually arrive at White Hart Lane until the summer.
In this clip, B/R lead writers Will Tidey and Michael Cummings grade these four deals from A to F.
