Important Spring Training Dates for All 30 MLB Teams' Fans

    In almost exactly one month, MLB teams will be back in action as spring training officially gets underway.

    Feb. 11 is the first day that pitchers and catchers can officially report. Players working their way back from injury can also voluntarily report.

    Spring training is a rite of passage for many fans. Oftentimes, they schedule vacations to coincide with their favorite team’s spring training schedules. It’s also a chance to mingle and interact with their favorite players in a more casual setting as opposed to the more rigid schedule of the regular season.

    Here is a breakdown of the important spring training dates for each MLB team.

Arizona Diamondbacks

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    Salt River Fields at Talking Stick

    7555 N Pima Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85258

    Salt River Fields officially became the home for both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies in 2011. The 11,500-seat stadium is located near Scottsdale and is the first MLB park ever built on Native Indian land.

     

    Fan Fest: Feb. 9, Chase Field

    Two days before Arizona Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers report to spring training, the annual FanFest will be held at Chase Field.

    Fans will have an opportunity to meet with and talk to many Diamondbacks players, coaches, broadcasters and management personnel. Clubhouse tours, photo opportunities and many other events are on tap for the day.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 11

    The real work begins on Feb. 11, when pitchers, catchers and injured players can report, with workouts to begin the following day.

    It will be the first time that Diamondbacks fans can see Brandon McCarthy and Heath Bell as they don their new uniforms for the very first time.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 14

    There will be a lot of love on Valentine’s Day, as the full squad will officially report to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, AZ.

    Cody Ross, Cliff Pennington, Didi Gregorius, Eric Hinkse and Eric Chavez will all be in attendance with their new team as the Diamondbacks look to improve upon an 81-81 finish in 2012.

     

    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 23 vs. Colorado Rockies

    The Diamondbacks face the Colorado Rockies—the other team that calls Salt River Fields at Talking Stick home—on Feb. 23.

    Fans might just catch a glimpse of several new arrivals in the lineup on the very first day of live games.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 28, Texas Rangers at Surprise Stadium

    The Diamondbacks close out their Cactus League schedule against the Texas Rangers.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30, Cincinnati Reds at Chase Field

    The Diamondbacks host the Reds in the finale of a two-game exhibition at Chase Field. They open the season two days later, hosting the St. Louis Cardinals.

Atlanta Braves

    Located right in the heart of Disney World, Champion Stadium is a gorgeous venue. Now a part of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the Braves can play their Grapefruit League games in front of a capacity crowd of 9,500 fans.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 11

    Braves fans will get their first chance to see new Braves reliever Jordan Walden as he begins a new chapter in his baseball life.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 14

    The full squad reports on Valentine's Day, with the first workout scheduled the following day. New center fielder B.J. Upton will officially don the Braves uniform for the first time. Is it possible that Braves fans could also see his brother Justin in camp as well? That would certainly make for an exciting camp.

     

    First Grapefruit League Game: Feb. 22 vs. Detroit Tigers at Champion Stadium

    The Braves open up Grapefruit League play against the defending American League champion Detroit Tigers. All eyes will be on the starting lineup as fans eagerly anticipate the new post-Chipper Jones era.

     

    Last Grapefruit League Game: March 28 vs. Houston Astros at Champion Stadium

    The Braves close out their Grapefruit League schedule against the Houston Astros. Fans at that point should have a good idea of what the 25-man roster will look like for the Braves as they break camp.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park, Pearl, MS

    Before opening their regular season, the Braves travel to Mississippi to take on their Double-A affiliate, the Mississippi Braves. The affiliation between the two teams began back in 2005.

Baltimore Orioles

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    Ed Smith Stadium

    Originally built in 1989, the Baltimore Orioles became a permanent tenant in 2010. The Orioles used Ed Smith Stadium as their spring training facility in 1991 before moving to St. Petersburg.

    The 8,500-seat stadium was also once the spring home of the Chicago White Sox (1989-1997).

     

    FanFest: Jan. 21, Baltimore Convention Center

    Many current and former Orioles players and coaches will be on hand for the annual event. Activities include question-and-answer sessions with players, clinics for children conducted by players and coaches and sales of Orioles memorabilia.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 12

    Fans will have their first chance to welcome their team on Feb. 12, when the Orioles begin their journey towards another successful season. As of right now, fans will see many of the same faces, as the O's will bring back a pitching staff that finished sixth in the American League last season with a 3.90 ERA.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 15

    The entire squad will be in camp on Feb. 15, again, with many of the stars from last season returning.

     

    First Grapefruit League Game: Feb. 23 vs. Minnesota Twins at Ed Smith Stadium

    The Orioles will begin Grapefruit League play on Feb. 23 against the visiting Minnesota Twins.

     

    Last Grapefruit League Game: March 30 vs. New York Mets at Ed Smith Stadium

    The Orioles close out their Grapefruit League schedule against the Mets before heading slightly west to take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Opening Day.

Boston Red Sox

    The Red Sox opened the new 10,823-seat stadium just last year. JetBlue Park features an almost-exact replica of the 37-foot Green Monster at Fenway Park, complete with its own manual scoreboard.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 10

    Red Sox fans will see a bevy of new faces in camp when pitchers and catchers gather to start spring workouts. New manager John Farrell will open his first spring training with new arrivals Rubby de la Rosa, Joel Hanrahan, Koji Uehara, Ryan Dempster and David Ross.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 14

    Excitement will be the word of the day as the full squad reports for the first time. Newcomers Shane Victorino, Jonny Gomes, Stephen Drew and possibly Mike Napoli will help to give an air of optimism as the Sox hope to erase the memories of a lost 2012 season.

     

    First Grapefruit League Game: Feb. 23 vs. Tampa Bay Rays at JetBlue Park

    Two days prior to the first Grapefruit League game, Sox fans can watch the Red Sox in action for the first time as they play their annual spring games against Boston College and Northeastern University on Feb. 21.

     

    Last Grapefruit League Game: March 30 vs. Minnesota Twins at JetBlue Park

    The Red Sox will take on the Minnesota Twins in their final Graperuit League game before traveling to Yankee Stadium to open the regular season.

    The Mayor's Cup—the annual trophy given to the winner of the Red Sox-Twins spring series as the two representatives of the city of Fort Myers—will be on the line.

Chicago Cubs

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    HoHoKam Park

    The Chicago Cubs have trained in Mesa since 1979 and have called HoHoKam Park home since 1997. With a seating capacity of 13,074, the Cubs regularly draw some of the largest crowds throughout spring training.

     

    FanFest: Chicago Cubs Convention, Jan. 18-20, Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers

    The three-day fan event is chock-full of activities. Many current and former Cubs players and coaches will be in attendance.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 10

    Fans will get a glimpse of several newcomers when pitchers and catchers report. Edwin Jackson, Scott Feldman, Scott Baker and Carlos Villanueva arrive to help out a Cubs rotation that finished third-to-last in the National League last year with a 4.52 ERA.

    Catcher Dioner Navarro will look to make his mark behind the plate, and Japanese closer Kyuji Fujikawa will work hard to make an impact in the Cubs bullpen as well.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 16

    Fans can welcome the full squad for the first time on Feb. 16. Many familiar faces will be returning, and newcomer Nate Schierholtz will be making a bid to become the everyday starter in right field.

     


    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 23 vs. Los Angeles Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium

    The Cubs travel to Tempe to take on the Angels and newcomer Josh Hamilton in their Cactus League opener.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 28 vs. Seattle Mariners at HoHoKam Park

    The Mariners travel to HoHoKam Park for the first and only time as the Cubs close out their Cactus League schedule.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park

    The Cubs finish off a two-game exhibition series against the Astros before traveling to PNC Park to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in their regular season opener.

Chicago White Sox

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    Camelback Ranch

    Both the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers have called Camelback Ranch their spring home since 2009. The 13,000 seat stadium and adjacent fields were designed by White Sox head groundskeeper Roger Bossard, who has worked with the White Sox in that capacity since 1983.

     

    FanFest: Jan. 25-27, SoxFest 2013, Palmer House Hilton, Chicago, IL

    Gavin Floyd, Paul Konerko, Alexei Ramirez, Adam Dunn, Addison Reed and Chris Sale are just some of the current White Sox players who will be in attendance at the annual White Sox fan event. Many former players, coaches and broadcasters will also be on hand to greet fans and participate in a variety of events.  

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 12

    White Sox fans will welcome back a pitching staff largely intact from last year. Long-time catcher A.J. Pierzynksi is gone, but fans can watch Tyler Flowers as he attempts to take on full-time duties behind the plate.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 17

    The full squad reports for the first time on Feb. 17. Newcomer Jeff Keppinger will look to take over full-time duties at third base.

     

    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 23 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at Camelback Ranch

    The two Camelback Ranch tenants do battle on Feb. 23 to open up their Cactus League schedules. The two teams will battle it out three times all old at Camelback Ranch this spring.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 27 vs. Cleveland Indians at Camelback Ranch

    The White Sox close their Cactus League schedule against AL Central Division-rival Indians.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park

    The White Sox will close out a two-game exhibition series against the Brewers before opening at home against the Kansas City Royals on April 1.

Cincinnati Reds

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    Goodyear Ballpark

    The Cincinnati Reds share their spring training facilities with the Cleveland Indians at Goodyear Ballpark about 30 minutes west of Phoenix.

    The Reds made the move to the Cactus League in 2010 after training in Florida for many years. 

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 11

    Pitchers and catchers make their way to Goodyear Park on Feb. 11. Fans will see a pitching staff largely intact, but they will get a chance to watch Aroldis Chapman transition to the starting rotation.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 15

    A couple of new faces will report with the full squad for the first time on Feb. 15. Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo will look to bolster the Reds at the top of the batting order. Todd Frazier, last year's third-place finisher in Rookie of the Year award balloting, will come to camp as the starting third baseman in place of Scott Rolen, who is still contemplating retirement.

     

    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 22 vs. Cleveland Indians at Goodyear Ballpark

    The two Goodyear Ballpark residents battle each other in the Cactus League opener for the Reds. It's the first of five games between the two teams.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 30 vs. Cleveland Indians at Goodyear Ballpark

    The Reds finish the Cactus League schedule where they started: against the Indians. A split squad will take on the Tribe, while the rest of the team will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field

    A split squad will take on the Diamondbacks at their home field in Phoenix before opening the regular season at Great American Ball Park against the Los Angeles Angels on April 1.

Cleveland Indians

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    The Cleveland Indians began play at Goodyear Ballpark in 2009 after training in Winter Haven, Fla., for many years.

    They share the facility with the Cincinnati Reds, who took up residence there in 2010.

     

    FanFest: Cleveland Indians Tribe Fest, Jan. 19-20, Progressive Field, Cleveland, OH

    The two-day event will feature a variety of activities, including tours of the dugouts and clubhouse, face time with current and former Indians players, coaches and broadcasters and a variety of children's activities.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 10

    Fans will eagerly await the appearance of top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer and will witness for the first time his unique pregame warmup routine.

    Brett Myers will also be in camp for the first time as the Indians attempt to improve upon a dismal showing in 2012 that left them in last place in the American League with a 4.78 ERA.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 13

    A buzz will be in the air when the full squad reports on Feb. 13, with new stars Nick Swisher, Mark Reynolds and Drew Stubbs making their debuts.

     

    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 22 vs. Cincinnati Reds at Goodyear Ballpark

    The Indians face the Reds in the first of five spring matchups to start their Cactus League schedule. Stubbs will face his former team for the very first time following his trade this offseason.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 30 vs. Cincinnati Reds at Goodyear Ballpark

    The Indians take on the Reds again to wrap up their Cactus League schedule before traveling to the Rogers Centre to take on the Toronto Blue Jays for their regular season opener on April 2.

Colorado Rockies

    The Colorado Rockies share spring training facilities with the Arizona Diamonbacks at Salt River Fields, their spring home since 2011.

     

    FanFest

    The annual Rockies Fest was cancelled this year due to ongoing construction at Coors Field.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 10

    The Rockies pitchers and catchers are largely the same unit that finished last season and will look to improve on a majors-worst 5.22 ERA.

    Fans can hope that Jorge de la Rosa, Juan Nicasio and Jhoulys Chacin return completely healthy, as they likely hold the key to the Rockies' improvement this coming season.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 16

    The position players also are largely unchanged from 2012. Todd Helton will hope to open his 17th season with the Rockies in full health after hip injuries derailed his 2012 season.

    New manager Walt Weiss will be hoping that star shortstop Troy Tulowitizki is fully healthy as well after surgery to remove scar tissue from his groin area limited him to just 47 games last season.

     

    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 23 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks at Salt River Fields

    The Rockies open up their Cactus League schedule against their fellow tenant Diamondbacks at Salt River Fields. It's the first of three meetings between the two teams.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 28 vs. Milwaukee Brewers at Salt River Fields

    The Rockies take on the Brewers in their final Cactus League game.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Seattle Mariners at Spring Mobile Ballpark, Salt Lake City, UT

    The Rockies take on the Mariners at Spring Mobile Ballpark to close out their exhibition schedule. Spring Mobile Ballpark is home to the Salt Lake Bees, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

    It marks the first time an MLB exhibition game has been played in the Salt Lake area since the mid-1960s.

    The Rockies will open the regular season at Miller Park against the Brewers on April 1.

Detroit Tigers

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    The Detroit Tigers have trained in Lakeland, FL since the mid-1930s and have called Joker Marchant Stadium their spring home since 1966.

     

    FanFest: Jan. 26, Comerica Park, Detroit, MI

    The 18th annual TigerFest takes place on Jan. 26 at Comerica Park. Fans can mingle with players and coaches via autograph and photo sessions, and a variety of other activities will be featured as well.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 11

    The new resembles the old when pitchers and catchers first report on Feb. 11.

    With Anibal Sanchez in tow with a new five-year contract, the Tigers return with a pitching staff largely intact. Unless a move is made within the next month, prospect Bruce Rondon will look to replace Jose Valverde as the closer.

    Brayan Pena will also be in attendance, as he figures to back up Alex Avila during the season.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 14

    A lot of excitement will be in the air on Valentine's Day when newcomer Torii Hunter reports for the first time. Designated hitter Victor Martinez will also be returning after missing the entire 2012 season with a torn ACL. The two hope to help rekindle hopes for the first World Series title in Motown since 1984.

     

    First Grapefruit League Game: Feb. 22 vs. Atlanta Braves at Champion Stadium

    The Tigers travel to Orlando to take on the Braves in their Grapefruit League opener.

     

    Last Grapefruit League Game: March 29 vs. Tampa Bay Rays at Joker Marchant Stadium

    The Tigers close their Grapefruit League schedule against the Rays. It's likely that, by then, manager Jim Leyland will have a good idea of who his starting left fielder will be. A battle between Andy Dirks, Brennan Boesch and Quintin Berry will make for an interesting spring.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field

    The Tigers will have one more game in Florida, taking on the Rays in St. Petersburg, before traveling to Target Field to take on the Minnesota Twins in their regular season opener on April 1.

Houston Astros

    The Houston Astros have called Osceola County Stadium their spring training home since 1985. While they're going through a complete change with their move to the American League West in 2013, fans can expect the same thrilling experience at their spring home.

     

    FanFest: Astros FanFest, Jan. 26, Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX

    At the Astros FanFest, fans will have their first chance to purchase special home-game ticket packages, meet many current and former Astros players and coaches and take part in various activities that include bullpen tosses, swings in the batting cages, autograph sessions and ballpark tours.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 11

    After two consecutive seasons with at least 100 losses, the new-look Astros look to turn things around with a young pitching staff that reports on Feb. 11. Newcomer Jose Veras will look to become the new Astros closer, while new additions Philip Humber and Alex White hope to crack a starting rotation that finished with the second-worst ERA in the National League last season.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 15

    Newcomer Carlos Pena hopes to help an Astros offense that scored just 583 runs last season, the worst in the National League. Pena will become the team's full-time designated in their first season in the American League.

     

    First Grapefruit League Game: Feb. 23 vs. Philadelphia Phillies at Bright House Field

    The Astros travel to Clearwater, Fla., to take on the Phillies in their Grapefruit League opener.

     

    Last Grapefruit League Game: March 28 vs. Atlanta Braves at Champion Stadium

    The Astros travel to Orlando to take on the Braves in their final Grapefruit League game.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Chicago Cubs at Minute Maid Park

    The Astros finish off a two-game exhibition series against the Cubs at home. The Astros will stay at home to take on the Texas Rangers in their regular season opener on March 31.

Kansas City Royals

    Where is Their Spring Training Facility?

    Surprise Stadium

    Surprise Stadium has been the spring training home for both the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers since 2003. Located about 45 minutes northwest of Phoenix, Surprise Stadium seats 10,500 fans and is a part of the Surprise Recreation Campus, which houses 12 fields altogether.

     

    FanFest: Royals FanFest, Jan. 19, Overland Park Convention Center, Overland Park, KS

    Many current and former Royals players will be on hand to sign autographs and take photos with fans. Interactive games and many other activities are also planned, with proceeds from the event to benefit Royals Charities.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 11

    Fans will get their first chance to see plenty of newcomers when pitchers and catchers first report on Feb. 11. Pitchers James Shields, Wade Davis, Ervin Santana, Guillermo Moscoso, Jeremy Jeffress and catcher Brett Hayes will all look to help the Royals gain their first playoff appearance since 1985.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 14

    The full squad reports on Valentine's Day with a bevy of young position players primed to take the next step and help the Royals contend for the AL Central Division title.

     

    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 22 vs. Texas Rangers at Surprise Stadium

    The Royals take on the Rangers in their Cactus League opener, the first of four spring meetings between the two Surprise Stadium tenants.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 29 vs. Cleveland Indians at Surprise Stadium

    It's the final Cactus League matchup for the Royals before they open the regular season at U.S. Cellular Field against the Chicago White Sox on April 1.

    Tempe Diablo Stadium has been a spring training home in the past for the Seattle Pilots/Milwaukee Brewers and the Seattle Mariners. Since 1993, the Angels have called Tempe Diablo Stadium their spring home.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 12

    Angels fans get their first look at a revamped pitching staff on Feb. 12. Tommy Hanson, Jason Vargas, Joe Blanton, Ryan Madson and Sean Burnett will all be making their debuts in an Angels uniform.

     

    Full Squad Reports: Feb. 15

    A palpable buzz will be in the air as superstar Josh Hamilton reports to Angels training camp for the first time.

     

    First Cactus League Game: Feb. 23 vs. San Francisco Giants at Scottsdale Stadium

    The Angels open their Cactus League schedule against the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

     

    Last Cactus League Game: March 27 vs. Texas Rangers at Tempe Diablo Stadium

    The Angels take on the Rangers in a matchup of AL West Division rivals to close out their Cactus League schedule.

     

    Last Exhibition Game: March 30 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at Angel Stadium

    After training in Vero Beach, FL for 60 years, the Los Angeles Dodgers made the move west, moving into Camelback Ranch in 2009.

     

    FanFest: Dodgers 2013 FanFest, Jan. 26, Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

    Many Dodgers players and coaches will be on hand for Dodger FanFest. Interviews, autograph sessions, live music and interactive games will all be offered for fans, who can also purchase single game tickets for the 2013 as well.

     

    Pitchers and Catchers Report: Feb. 12

    Hyun-Jin Ryu and Zack Greinke bring plenty of excitement for a completely revamped Dodgers team loaded with newcomers. Josh Beckett and Brandon League will be making their spring training debuts at Camelback Ranch following their midseason trades last year.

    The Mets will begin the 2013 season without the services of reigning Cy Young Award-winner R.A. Dickey, who was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. Fans will be able to see catcher Travis d'Arnaud for the first time, however.

    After spending many years training in Fort Lauderdale, the Yankees moved to their brand new facility in 1996. Renamed after their former owner in 2008, George M. Steinbrenner Field seats 11,000 fans—one of the largest spring training stadiums in Florida.

    The Yankees return much of their pitching staff from the 2012 season, minus closer Rafael Soriano, but Mariano Rivera will return to his familiar closer's role. Russell Martin is gone as well, so fans will get to see quite a competition behind the plate with Chris Stewart, Francisco Cervelli and Austin Romine.

    Newcomer Kevin Youkilis will be a familiar face to many Yankees fans who watched him on the other side of the field for the Boston Red Sox.
