The Toronto Maple Leafs fired general manager Brian Burke on Wednesday, ending his four-year run in charge of the team. He will remain with the club as a senior adviser. No matter what your opinion is of him as a general manager, there are two things you have to give him. First, he has been one of the most charitable executives in the NHL in recent years and has given more of his time to the community (for a number of causes, ranging from the You Can Play movement to sleeping on the street to raise awareness for homeless youth) than any other general manager in the league. And for that he deserves credit.
