The glitz. The glamour. The red carpet and blinding flash bulbs. The…pinching of backsides?
Ladies and gentlemen, it's the FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala!
If you missed it, that was where in addition to recognizing the top players in world football over the past year, one of the top players in world football over the past year played a prank on a retired legend in full view of the cameras.
Ronaldo, as most probably know already, is a 36-year-old Brazilian who retired from the game in 2011. A three-time FIFA World Player of the Year (that award merged with the Ballon d'Or in 2010), Ronaldo has gained—and subsequently lost—quite a bit of weight in retirement.
Casillas, a 31-year-old goalkeeper, was formerly Ronaldo's teammate at Real Madrid. Casillas has won just about everything there is to win in world football, from the World Cup to the European Championship to the Champions League to domestic league titles and cups. He also earned a spot on the FIFPro World Team of the Year for 2012.
Why did we mention all that? We mentioned all of that because we wanted to point out that Casillas is a veteran footballer who's well-known throughout the world for his skills and professionalism.
That's what makes the clip above so funny. As you can see, Casillas plays a quick prank on Ronaldo as he passes the Brazilian superstar on his way into the ceremony Monday in Zurich.
The prank? Casillas pinches Ronaldo on the cheek. The, uh, other cheek.
Hilarious? You bet, and we love it. That's why we're making the clip our Set Piece Video of the Day for this Wednesday.
Enjoy, and let us know what prank you would pull on Casillas to get back at him—because, clearly, we're all mature adults here.
