I have officially withdrawn my commitment to USC. Im just letting Jesus lead me and I will follow his path for me! God Bless— Kylie Fitts (@K_Fitts93) January 8, 2013
It came as a shock. Twitter nearly broke out in a riot. Facebook went nuts. Blogs rushed to report it. Phones lit up with text messages.
The fifth class of 2013 recruit to decommit is 4-Star DE Kylie Fitts out of East Valley High School in Redlands, California. Fitts was one of four early enrollees who counted against the 2012 recruiting class’s numbers.
Remember, Lane Kiffin has gamed the sanctions with his system. When players like Darreus Rogers became academically ineligible in Fall 2012, it opened up a spot in Spring 2013 for an EE. The other early enrollees are Max Browne, Chris Hawkins, Justin Davis and the newly committed Leon McQuay III.
It is not hard to look at the situation and come up with the feeling that 5-star McQuay, coupled with a wrist injury that caused Fitts to miss some of his senior season as well as practices for the Under Armour All-American game may have combined into a perfect storm that caused Fitts to be bumped from the early enrollee group. This is just an opinion, but not a far fetched one.
Fitts, an early enrollee who had been committed to the Trojans since April, had already signed his scholarship paperwork and was set to enroll on Thursday and begin classes January 14th. It was surprising when he took to twitter to announce his decommitment.
Fitts did not give an official reason when he announced his decommittment from the Trojans, he just cited a number of recent developments without going into detail. USCfootball.com’s Gerard Martinez sent out the following tweet this afternoon:
Four-star defensive end Kylie Fitts has de-committed from #USC. Fitts said news yesterday caused him to withdraw his commitment.— Gerard Martinez (@gmartlive) January 8, 2013
Fitts has become the fifth decommitment for USC, joining Max Redfield, Eldridge Massington, Eddie Vanderdoes and Sebastian LaRue. Fitts, however, was the most surprising of the group as there was no indication before his announcement that he was wavering.
It should be noted that Fitts has a sibling who attends UCLA and made a visit to Washington on November 9th.
USC has 14 commits remaining in the 2013 class.
