Where Does Cristiano Ronaldo Rank Amongst Real Madrid Greats?

Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 for a world-record fee of £80 million. It was an extravagant sum, but Ronaldo’s is an extravagant talent.

The 27-year-old scored 60 goals last season as Madrid drove to the Spanish title and reached the semifinals of the Champions League—where it took a penalty shootout for Bayern Munich to beat them.

If not for Lionel Messi, Ronaldo would be classed the best player of his generation. But the question of where he stands among Real Madrid greats is more difficult to answer.

Ronaldo is still early in his Madrid career. Just three completed seasons in, can we really place him above the likes of Alfredo Di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas, Raul, Zinedine Zidane and his teammate Iker Casillas—all of whom have given far more service at the Bernabeu?

Some might argue Ronaldo is still behind his namesake, the Brazilian striker Ronaldo, in the ranks of all-time Real Madrid greats.

In this clip, B/R Lead Writers Will Tidey and Michael Cummings try to place where Ronaldo stands in the pantheon of Madrid greats. There’s nothing more subjective than discussing greatness, so be encouraged to weigh in on the debate below.
