Chelsea are believed to be closing in on a deal for Metalist Kharkiv midfielder Taison Freda as they look to make the 24-year-old their second signing of the winter transfer window.
Having already secured the services of Demba Ba, the European champions have now reportedly turned their attention towards the talented Brazilian midfielder.
And according to the latest reports from The Guardian, Chelsea are closing in rapidly on a deal for Freda:
Discussions are continuing with Metalist Kharkiv to secure the arrival of the Brazilian midfielder Taison Freda. The Ukrainian club are now exerting pressure on Chelsea to raise their bid for the 24-year-old to around £11 million, which they would deem acceptable.
Personal terms are already agreed with the former Internacional midfielder, who has been advised he will be able to secure a work permit to play in England despite being uncapped by his country.
If a fee can be agreed, Taison would become Chelsea's second addition of the month after Demba Ba, with one more defensively minded midfielder—Paulinho at Corinthians remains a target—potentially to arrive before the end of the month.
Taison would most likely join the club as a substitute in midfield, with the likes of Lucas Piazon and Oriol Romeu both likely to receive starts in the Blues midfield and attack before Taison.
Although, with the news emerging that Chelsea are unlikely to offer Frank Lampard a new contract at the end of the current season, a position could be available for someone like Taison or Romeu to play alongside talented midfielder John Obi Mikel.
If Chelsea can agree on a transfer fee, that is.
The West London club had originally tried to piece together a deal that was on the underside of £10 million for Taison, though the Ukrainians didn't accept.
They are believed to want closer to £15 million for their star midfielder, who has shown that he is more than capable of producing some individual brilliance when required.
The latest reports have the two clubs meeting at around £11-12 million, which would have to be considered a good deal for both parties involved. The Blues are believed to be close to turning those negotiations into a solid contract with the midfielder, and could very well announce a deal sometime in the near future if that takes place.
Will Taison Freda make a move to Chelsea this transfer window?
