When the Alabama Crimson Tide jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the BCS National Championship, ESPN badly needed something to hold the viewers' attention.
It's a good thing A.J. McCarron's girlfriend and mother were in the crowd.
After just 11 minutes of game time, about 200 yards of Crimson Tide offense and limited signs of life from the Fighting Irish, things got a little weird:
Yes, that would be Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit—but mostly Musburger—gushing over a few of McCarron's best supporters.
It may have been just a tad bit creepy, but at least it gave the broadcast some entertainment value during a game that was quickly getting out of hand.
In case you were wondering—and I'm sure many of you are—McCarron's girlfriend goes by the name of Katherine Webb.
She is an Auburn grad (uh-oh), has clearly won over McCarron's mom and—oh yeah—is the 2012 Miss Alabama USA.
A.J. McCarron, you are a winner in so many different ways tonight.
