Rex Burkhead is the future Willis McGahee, it's as simple as that. The similarities are eerie. Burkhead is a fast, powerful runner like McGahee. Burkhead would also be a perfect complement for Ronnie Hillman, and together, they would be almost unstoppable.
Burkhead missed some time in his senior season because of knee injuries, but he still made an impact and got NFL scouts' tongues wagging. Burkhead finished with 675 yards and five touchdowns this season.
In 2011, when he was fully healthy, Burkhead finished with 1,357 yards and 15 touchdowns. In his last game as a Husker, Burkhead carried the offense and improved his draft stock with 140 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Burkhead is currently ranked as the No. 10 running back on NFLdraftscout.com and will probably go late in the second round or early third round. There are concerns about his injuries, but after seeing him play in high school in Plano, Texas, I'm 100 percent certain this young man will do great things in the NFL. It would be even better if he was wearing orange.
