The 2013 BCS National Championship Game between the No. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide is scheduled to take place on Monday night at 8 ET on ESPN.

Now that we are a few short hours away from the opening kick, it’s time to get your final wagers in against the spread and on the total. There is still plenty of value to be found, but you must hurry before the lines continue to move and reduce your chance of covering.

Let’s take a look at the most recent odds (as of 11 a.m. ET) courtesy of, plus make some suggestions on how to lean when betting on this epic national title game.

Point Spread: Notre Dame (+9.5) over Alabama

If you can find this line at 10, you should immediately pull the trigger and take the points.

This is going to be a knockdown-dragout battle between two of the top defenses in the entire nation, and the final score will be closer than Vegas believes. Neither team is going to make many mistakes, and we expect the first program to commit a blunder will wind up going home empty-handed.

Regardless of who wins—and we expect Nick Saban’s Tide will roll to a second straight championship—it will not be by more than a touchdown. For that reason, it’s extremely valuable to take the almost double-digit points in this contest.

Over/Under: Under 40.5

For many of the same reasons there is value in getting 9.5 points, you should lean towards the under in this championship matchup.

Chip Kelly’s Irish possess the top scoring defense in the nation, giving up just 10.3 points per game, while ‘Bama is just behind them, giving up a scant 10.7. Both feature powerful pass rushers, insanely fast linebackers and an opportunistic secondary.

There’s no doubting that these two units will take center stage with the crystal football on the line, and we expect points are going to be extremely hard to come by.

Take the under and cash your ticket come Monday night.
