It looks like WWE has decided who will be The Big Show’s opponent at WWE Royal Rumble 2013—and for once, he does not have red hair and speak with an Irish Brogue.

PWInsider is reporting that Show is expected to defend his World Heavyweight Championship title against Alberto Del Rio at the Jan. 27 pay-per-view in Phoenix. According to the report:

“Big Show vs. Alberto Del Rio will continue to be the direction WWE goes into for the Royal Rumble. The early Raw script features a continuation of that storyline.”

There is no word whether this will be addressed tonight when Raw broadcasts its first live show of 2013 in Tampa.

If it does turn out to be true, then the match may be just the shot in the arm Del Rio needs to validate his face turn. It also continues the storyline started on the Dec. 28 SmackDown involving Show and Ricardo Rodriguez, Del Rio’s announcer and reported best friend.

On that show, Rodriguez was chosen in a lottery drawing to face Show for the World belt. But he was pulled from the match when Show, in storyline, dropped him backstage with a Knockout Punch.

His spot was taken by Del Rio, who engaged in a lively match with Show. ADR won by countout when Show left the ring and started up the ramp, only to be thrown back in the ring by Sheamus. The show ended with Del Rio and Sheamus exchanging kicks on Show’s head.

On last week’s Raw, the match between Show and Rodriguez finally happened. Show was setting up for another Knockout Punch when Del Rio saved his friend with a low blow and another head kick.

Del Rio is no stranger to WHC matches. After winning the Royal Rumble in 2011, he chose to challenge then-champ Edge and lost in what would be Edge’s final match. When the belt was declared vacant, Del Rio faced Christian in a match and lost again.

The reported addition of Del Rio to the WHC title chase means that Show now has three challengers after his belt. On last week’s SmackDown, Sheamus and Randy Orton—two former World champs themselves—announced they were entering the Rumble Match at Royal Rumble in order to make another title run.
