When Gregg Popovich thinks about Doug Collins, he doesn’t envision the Philadelphia 76ers coach as he is now at age 61.

Nor does he picture Collins as an NBA player, willing his way to an All-Star career with the Sixers on force of will alone.

When Popovich thinks of Collins, he invariably thinks of Munich in 1972, and a skinny 21-year-old from rural Illinois at the foul line, trying to take down the big, bad Soviet Union in an Olympic gold medal game that would live in infamy.
