With the Rock's eagerly-awaited WWE return just days away, speculation is rife regarding exactly what role the People’s Champion will play in his upcoming stint with the company.
A WWE Championship run appears all too likely, with the win widely expected to arrive at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view at the end of January.
But many are still wondering whether or not the Great One will feature at the Elimination Chamber PPV, and who his challengers may be and who should enter the event as Champion.
While rumors have suggested he will indeed feature, we were recently given another huge clue regarding his status, thanks to the release of the promotional material for Elimination Chamber 2013.
So does this confirm the Rock’s appearance and his opponents?
Typically, promotional material is not such a great guideline to go by. For example, Santino Marella featured on the 2012 Royal Rumble poster, while Sheamus was the key figure on the Elimination Chamber 2013 poster and he didn’t even compete at the PPV.
But when it comes to the Rock, this is no typical situation.
After such hype surrounding his return, surely the WWE wouldn’t falsely advertise his appearance at a PPV that comes at such a crucial time in the Road to WrestleMania?
One would have to think not, but does the poster tell us anything else about the event itself?
It would certainly seem to suggest that the Brahma Bull is on a collision course with both Cena and Punk, which could in fact be a pre-cursor for a WWE Championship Triple Threat match between the three foes at WrestleMania XXIX.
Perhaps I’m reading too much into it, but I can’t help but feel the WWE are giving us a huge clue here regarding the Elimination Chamber card with their choice of advertising material.
I would fully expect the Rock to retain his WWE title at the PPV, should he head into it as champion that is, and thus keep the possibility open of a showdown with either Punk or Cena or both men at this year’s April extravaganza.
Of course if this were to be true, what do we make of the rest of the Elimination Chamber poster?
World Heavyweight Champion the Big Show is featured, alongside his recent rival Sheamus, but perhaps more surprisingly comes the inclusion of Ryback between the two men.
Is Ryback going to be inserted into this feud somehow?
It definitely appears likely, and would pave the way for a WrestleMania clash with Big Show which could lead to that ’Mania moment that the WWE are so keen to create.
Is the Elimination Chamber poster a sign of things to come?
Again, I may be looking to far into it, but this evidence combined with recent reports suggest that Ryback vs. Big Show and the Rock vs. Punk vs. Cena could well be on the cards for this year’s WrestleMania.
At the end of the day, it is just a poster, but it seems all too convenient for this image to have been constructed as such by accident.
But what do you guys think?
Should we take this hint as fact? Will the Rock and Ryback make their Chamber debuts? And are such potential rivalries a good idea for the WWE to pursue?
Comment below with your thoughts on the promotional material, and whether or not you think this could be a sign of things to come at the Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania PPVs this year.
