Well folks, seeing Kane unmasked really isn't anything new.
Especially considering the fact that we've witnessed "The Big Red Machine" sans mask for about eight years. That being said, the masked Kane returned to the WWE in 2012 and his face has remained hidden ever since.
That was until the WWE toured Abu Dhabi and rehearsed a press junket run-in involving Kane and John Cena. After the rehearsal, a picture surfaced (seen here), revealing an unmasked Kane sporting a shorter hair style. Now, less than a year later, Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller fame released the following tweet with Glenn Jacobs aka Kane unmasked.
Here we are backstage with wrestler Glenn Jacobs better known as KaneWhat a smart great guy.Taller than me? twitter.com/pennjillette/s…— Penn Jillette (@pennjillette) January 4, 2013
Look, I get that "masked" Kane is a character on TV. However, it still bugs me when pictures like this are released. The main reason is it lifts the curtain and reveals too much of the man behind the character. Ultimately, wrestling has historically been a side-show. In fact, pre-internet and dirt-sheet reports, wrestlers had to live an extension of their on-air character in their personal lives.
If you were a heel, you better not be caught with a face in public, otherwise you would have some explaining to do. More importantly, if you wore a mask, you were never filmed without it. Not to mention the fact that Kane, even as a face, is still portrayed as a demonic character.
Ultimately, I understand some of you reading this may think that I am being too extreme about this. However, keep in mind, it was only a few months ago that fans were up in arms about Triple H being photographed without the very cast he was wearing on WWE TV after he was attacked by Brock Lesnar.
In the end, this is much ado about nothing. However, it does give you some insight into Kane's private life and allows you to see Kane unmasked.
Now it's your turn to weigh-in: Do you think Kane should not have photos leaked without the mask? Or, is this something that is excepted in 2013?
