Newcastle United appear to be acting quickly.

With Demba Ba completing his move to Chelsea, Magpies boss Alan Pardew has outlined Marseille forward Loic Remy as the perfect replacement for his top goalscorer of the season (via The Independent).

As we'll see, Remy is a different type of player to Ba. Now, Papiss Cisse is the club's most important striker, could someone of Remy's type aid Newcastle's quest to push up the Premier League table? It seems we will find out soon.

This Season

Remy has failed to nail down a place in Elie Baup's side this season.

The Frenchman has made just two starts and 12 substitute appearances in Ligue 1 so far. The video above highlights his only goal in this campaign's domestic competition. His fine strike against Lyon barely impacted the 4-1 loss.

Opportunities in this season's Europa League have been regular. Five starts in the competition have seen Remy net twice. Right now, he is very much a player who needs playing every match in order to reach his full potential.

Club Highlights

Newcastle fans will be buoyed by Remy's goalscoring prowess throughout his career. His versatility means he can adapt to any position across the frontline or wings.

Remy is a modern forward in every sense. His combination of speed, power and intelligence make him deadly from every situation. Whether he faces a one-on-one against the opposition's goalkeeper, or needs to pop up in the area with a neat header, Remy has a diverse set of tools to get the job done.

This exciting player has netted often since making a name for himself. Aside from his early spell with Lyon between 2006-08, Remy averages just below a goal every two games when starting.

As we can see from the video, his two years at Nice were packed full of creative finishes.

International Recognition

Remy made his official international debut back in 2008. Although his fleeting appearance against Nigeria couldn't reverse the 1-0 defeat, his presence in the France setup gained recognition outside of Ligue 1.

The forward's first international goal came in a 2-0 win over Romania in 2010. Since then, he has netted in wins over Albania and USA, alongside a goal in the 1-1 draw with Chile during August 2011.

Unfortunately for Remy, a thigh injury saw his chances of competing at Euro 2012 come to a sudden halt (via The Daily Mail).

Future

Unsurprisingly, reports suggest a number of clubs are interested in Remy this January. Although Newcastle are favourites to land the Frenchman's signature, Tottenham Hotspur appeared to close in on the player last summer (via The Daily Mail).

Chelsea were also rumoured to want Remy back in August (via The Daily Mail). With Demba Ba added to the lineup, this potential move should now be considered a dud.
