The Shield: How Will Their Role Impact the Royal Rumble PPV?
If you thought The Shield was something spectacular in 2012, look out for the beginning of 2013.
The Royal Rumble may be the perfect place for the "Unholy Trinity" to truly show how special it is.
Throw out the Horsemen; throw out the nWo. This trio is better, more unruly and more in control of being out of control than any stable we have seen in wrestling. And this is the perfect time to unleash the furor even more than we have seen in the past few months.
This could be the most interesting Rumble in some time. While we waited for Chris Jericho to win last year's pay-per-view, there is no clear-cut favorite this year other than maybe John Cena and Ryback. And The Shield will mark both of them early and often in an attempt to cure injustice these two faces might have "caused."
The true reason for the stable being in the WWE has not been clearly defined in terms of wanting titles or control. Other stables in the past have wanted both. This appears to be a trio of brawlers who just want to beat the hell out of opponents or in-ring performers they dislike.
We never know when they will appear and who they will target. That is what makes them so great to watch. That is why we are always thinking of them during every match. That is why we cannot count them out in a Battle Royal where they can monopolize the ring in a large setting and do damage at will.
Do I think they will put themselves in a position to win the event? No. Do I think it is possible they could win the event? Sure, they have as good a chance as anyone in the event. Will their presence be felt throughout the night? Probably, or most definitely.
There are certain things we can all count on when it comes to the Royal Rumble. First, it is unpredictable. Second, who we expect to win usually does not win. And when it comes to making its presence known in a battle of large numbers, The Shield could be the story of the night.
And that is something we are all counting on.
