Five Quick Observations
Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

For the second straight year, the Cyclones went on to a bowl game with a record of 6-6 and lost, missing out on a chance to finish the year with a winning record. Iowa State fell to Tulsa, 31-17, in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Monday to finish the 2012 season at 6-7. The Cyclones were outgained, 409-268, committed three turnovers to the Golden Hurricane’s one, and converted only two of 14 third-down attempts. Head coach Paul Rhoads has gone 24-27 (.471) in four seasons at Iowa State. His Cyclones begin next season on Aug. 31 against Northern Iowa.
