Chelsea must target Newcastle striker Demba Ba in the transfer window instead of Atletico Madrid goal scorer Radamel Falcao. And according to Sky Sports News, it appears that the Blues have already begun working on a possible transfer for the Senegalese star:

After reading Falcao's recent comments (via Sky Sports) about his future in Spain, this news about Ba is not surprising at all.

"I thank God our results have been so positive and that we have done so well this season so far. My expectation is that I will be staying at the club until the end of the season," Falcao said.

The Blues' best target is Ba because he has a proven track record of goal-scoring brilliance, and he performs at a high level against the top clubs in England.

He also knows the Premier League very well, which would likely make for an easy transition if he were to join the London club.

Ba's two goals against Arsenal on Saturday were one of the few positives for Newcastle in their 7-3 defeat to Arsenal, and they helped the star striker tie Swansea City forward Michu for the second most goals scored in the Premier League this season with 13.

Spending huge money on Falcao wouldn't be a smart decision for Chelsea if they can sign Ba for considerably less. Bringing Ba to Stamford Bridge would also decrease the amount of quality forwards that Chelsea's rivals can pursue in the next transfer window.

Fernando Torres has played pretty well this season as a lone striker, and he hasn't struggled to the point where Chelsea should consider adding a player of Falcao's caliber to the squad.

The Blues would be smart to save money in January by signing Ba and using the bulk of their transfer funds to find replacements for veteran midfielder Frank Lampard and veteran left-back Ashley Cole. Both players could be reaching the end of the tenures at Stamford Bridge in the near future.

Ba is the perfect striker for Chelsea. He can score goals, he has pace, he has a history of success in the Premier League and bringing him to London probably won't require an enormous transfer fee.

At the moment, he is a much better transfer target than Falcao.
