Last night Duke got blown out by Villanova 54-77. Duke made the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2006 and, of course, they blew it.
Duke, again, failed to beat a top-four seed in the NCAA tournament and hasn't beaten one since winning the national title in 2001. Duke is definitely not a good dancer. Duke is 30-7-11-5. They won the ACC and they earned a two seed. And they lost to Villanova—is that really such a surprise?
Villanova is an overpowering team in the Big East, but we all know the Blue Devils can beat Villanova. Here’s a quick recap of the game. The Wildcats beat Duke for the first time in more than 50 years last night, getting 14 points and 11 rebounds from Dante Cunningham to win 77-54 and advance to the Elite Eight.
It was Villanova's 14th NCAA victory over a higher-seeded team—the most in tournament history.
Villanova (29-7) will play Big East rival and No. 1 seed Pittsburgh (31-4) on Saturday for a trip to the Final Four. The Wildcats beat Pitt 67-57 in their regular-season meeting at Philadelphia on Jan. 28.
Is Duke cursed or something? It sure seems like it.
I mean, really, Duke is a more than exceptional team and they have more than exceptionally rotten luck. The Blue Devils haven’t won a championship since 2001 and it doesn’t seem like there gonna get another national title anytime soon.
