In college basketball, the programs, the coaches, the players, the fans, and the band are all a part of being successful. It takes dedication, determination, commitment, hard work, and confidence to perform at the highest level in women's college basketball. All of these things are displayed greatly night in and night out. Everything is left out on the court.
To be the best, you must beat the best. You see teams getting upset every year, in women's and men's college basketball. A perfect example of this is when George Mason made it to the final four two years ago. I was amazed, as was most of the college basketball nation.
There are many great coaches in women's college basketball. What defines a good women's college basketball coach is their decisions, play calling, strategies, number of wins, and having the right people on the floor at the right time. Coaching women's basketball isn't easy in any way, shape, or form.
Success in any college program comes down to working hard to get to where you need to be. It takes leaders, ones who will take you where you need to go. Passion and love of the game are also key. The mental aspect of the game is also very important. You must have self confidence. Being able to handle close situations requires you to be mentally strong.
The fans are also a key factor. They can give you an edge for home games and even away games. They cheer and show their pride for their respective teams. Having a strong fan base is always imperative. Building up programs to where they are highly successful leads to an increased fan base.
The band provides a nice touch to the game. They give you the entertainment. The music is genuine.
Women's college basketball is up and rising, in oh so many ways.

I hate to give people the satisfaction by replying to stuff like this, but Leanna, you wrote an excellent article and don't deserve to have somebody who's too afraid to sign their name to this mock you and your piece.
I work as a college admissions officer and have helped in recruitment of women's basketball players. I can attest that these young women are just as driven, skilled, and hard-working as their male counterparts. In fact, the women's basketball program at my college is far stronger than their male counterparts.
One needs only to look at a team like UConn to understand that women can play sports and dominate in a way that is just as impressive as any men's team. Anyone who believes that women's sports are not up to par with men's sports is just ignorant and clearly not a true sports enthusiast.
One of my favorite athletes of all time is Mia Hamm and it would literally be impossible to find anyone in recent sports history who has dominated a sport at the same level, while also bringing in tens of millions of new fans. Tiger comes close, but he's still second to Mia and the affect she has had on millions of people young and old. Plus... (in my humble opinion) Tiger is less of an athlete and more of an unmatched skill at his craft.
Keep up the good work Leanna and I hope to see more women's hoops articles.
